On the farm we have 3 different types of poultry - Chickens, Ducks and Turkeys. We have 2 types of egg laying chicken. One is the Warren, Which is the archetypal battery hen, they lay a medium brown egg. The other is the Legbar Hybrid. These hens come in a variety of colours. These are more flighty than the Warrens and lay a variety of tinted eggs ranging from pale pink to pale blue. Interesting fact: In America the most popular colour of egg purchased is white because of its association with purity. In the UK the most popular is brown because of its association with wholesomeness.
At the moment we currently have a few Buff Orpington ducks on the farm and a few Call ducks. The Orpingtons lay a large white egg which is richer than a chicken egg and excellent for baking. The call ducks are more of a show duck and will be great for the children.
We are currently raising Bronze Turkeys for Christmas. The bronze turkey is acclaimed as one of the best tasting turkeys around, with a moist rich flavour and finely grained meat. Our hand reared turkeys are produced in the most natural way, living outdoors on rich fertile pastures, and sleeping indoors in spacious shelter. We believe that this natural environment has a really positive impact on its taste, tenderness and meat yield
